Answers to Common Questions About Screening Process

Q. Can I have the screenings done at my doctor's office?
A. Your physician could order the tests for you. However, without symptoms, most insurance companies won’t approve the expense. In a hospital setting, the tests can run approximately $2,000 to $4,000. If abnormalities are found in the preventative screening we provide, we will help explain the findings to your physician so that further treatment may be obtained.

Q. Will I have to undress?
A. No, but please wear loose clothing so we can access your neck, a small section of your abdomen, arm, lower-leg, and feet.

Q. Can I still take my regular medications?
A. There’s no need to change your daily routine for these tests.

Q. Do I need to fast?
A. Unless you are having the cholesterol screening, you may eat and drink as normal. The cholesterol screening requires that you fast for 8 hours prior to the test.

Q. What kind of osteoporosis screening do you perform?
A. The osteoporosis screening that we perform targets the most weight-bearing bone in your body—the heal. While the test is not as invasive as one performed in a hospital setting, the results are proven to be accurate. The Achilles screening will review bone mass and will calculate a T-Score and Z-Score for bone density.

Q. Will my insurance pay for it?
A. We do not submit bills to insurance companies, but we will provide you with a ready-to-submit receipt that you can send in to your insurance company.

Q. Are there additional fees to have the tests read by the doctor?
A. Results analysis by a licensed Radiologist is included in the cost of your screening.

Q. Who performs the screenings?
A. Certified Ultrasound Technicians are trained to perform your screenings. They’ll also help you understand the preliminary results at the time of your screening.

Q. Are there any needles involved in the screenings?
A. No. All screenings are non-invasive and completely painless.

Q. What do I need to do to prepare?
A. You don’t need to do a thing to prepare. We do ask that you wear loose clothing around your neck.

Q. Does it hurt?
A. Not at all. All screenings are conducted while you are fully clothed, they are non-invasive and completely painless.

Q. How accurate are the tests?
A. Screenings are 98% accurate. Any abnormality found will be discussed with you and special written instructions provided so that you can discuss them with your physician. A Registered Nurse will follow-up with you whenever an abnormality is found.

Q. Do I need an appointment?
A. Yes. To ensure a quality screening, private appointments are scheduled for each individual.

Q. How does it work?
A. Each screening uses a non-invasive ultrasound machine...
A Stroke Screening uses ultrasound visualization of the carotid arteries. 75% of strokes are caused when this artery is blocked.
We look for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm also using Ultra Sound visualization of the abdominal aorta. Abdominal aortic aneurysms often do not have symptoms. An Ultra Sound is 98% accurate in detecting and measuring the size of the aneurysm.
Peripheral Vascular Disease can be detected through an ankle brachial index test that measures the blood flow through peripheral arteries. These blockages can also lead to heart attack or stroke.
Bone density is measured through an Achilles screening test to assess T-Score and Z-Score. The screening will identify bone mass density and is proven to be very accurate when compared to more invasive testing performed in a hospital setting.

Q. Will you help me explain the results to my doctor?
A. Yes, we will provide a written explanation of any abnormalities discovered so that you can easily share them with your physician. A Registered Nurse will also follow-up with you to provide further assistance or to answer any questions you might have about the results.

Q. How often should I get a screening?
A. If you have any of the risk factors you should consider the screening annually. Changes occur within the body and most are silent. A screening will help to check for any changes or abnormalities.

Q. What are the risk factors of stroke?
A. Risk Factors include:
Over 40
Family history of strokes
TIAs- Minor stroke
High blood pressure
Tobacco use
High cholesterol
Obesity/overweight
Inactive lifestyle
Diabetes
Atrial Fibrillation (irregular heartbeat)
Unhealthy diet
Cardiac disease
Age
Gender
Family history
Race

Q. Can I wear my bra, deodorant?
A. You will remain fully clothed for all screenings. All tests are non-invasive and completely painless.

Q. How long does it take?
A. The entire wellness profile will take approximately 30 minutes.

Q. Where do you send the results?
A. Results are mailed to your home address. If any abnormality is discovered, we will provide you with special written instructions so that you can discuss them with your physician. A Registered Nurse will also follow-up with you whenever an abnormality is found.
